Oby Reacts: The WordPress ecosystem has lost its mind…

The Entangling Yarn of Chaos in the WordPress Ecosystem

  • The video discusses the open-source war between WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg and WP Engine, a hosted WordPress service provider.
  • Matt Mullenweg, who also happens to be the CEO of Automattic, recently filed a lawsuit against WP Engine, a company using WordPress’s open-source platform for monetary gains.
  • Mullenweg’s beef with WP Engine stems from the company’s heavy profiting off of WordPress without giving much back to WordPress, a little fishy use of the WordPress trademark, and their alleged “strip mining” of the WordPress ecosystem.
  • Automattic demanded WP Engine pays a royalty of 8% of its gross revenue. WP Engine opted not to sign the agreement, resulting in this ongoing row and WP Engine being banned from wordpress.org.
  • The endgame of the spat appears to be a split within the WordPress community since the WordPress installs on the WP Engine platform can no longer get updates or add plugins from the WordPress repo.
  • As a substantial kicker, an unique checkbox was also added to the WordPress login page stating “I am not affiliated with WP Engine in any way financially or otherwise”. The checkbox comes with a CSS class “login lawsuit”.

Yakking Away with Oby’s Thoughts from the Field

Now call me silly, but when the lead yak at the zoo hears about fights in the tech world, it’s hard to resist chiming in with a hearty yak chuckle. This drama feels like watching two bald men fight over a comb! WordPress and WP Engine, what are you doing? No one wins in an open-source war. It reminds me back in ’08 when I got into a hoof-off with Dolly the cow over the last patch of grass. Trust me, the grass wasn’t greener.

Moving onto greener pastures, this wild rodeo circles back to YacDaddy’s principles as a business platform. We believe in open communication and transparency with our customers and partners, much like what I do with my yak family. And in the spirit of open-source collaboration, we’ve built a platform that works towards everyone’s benefit.

With YacDaddy, users can organize projects and use our software to fuel their businesses, just like what WordPress intended before the muck and mire. We offer clear metrics logging, project features that let you connect with customers, show off your hard yak work on your website or social media platforms, and even request reviews. The YacDaddy arena is about boosting your business without any backstage drama. No boxing gloves involved, promise!

So, whether you’re a home service professional or a curly-horned yak like me, remember – a little less drama and a lot more progress can make the business world, and the grassland, a better place. YacDaddy is here to help!

Wow... those are great reviews!
